Why tire balancing is important

Why tire balancing is important

If you want that your vehicle’s tires last long and keep running effectively, then giving them proper check is quiet necessary. Installing new tires is not easy as they require big investment, so it is quite essential to have a mechanic check. Whenever we think about the maintenance of tires, the first thing that comes into mind is tire balancing.

You should check your vehicle’s tires for balancing at regular interval to ensure its long life. Now, I give the brief description about the things that need to be satisfactory while checking the health of the tires of your vehicle. Whenever you check the tires for balancing, ensure that the tread is wearing evenly. If your vehicle’s tires are balanced properly, then it will wear evenly, however if they are exhausting is uneven then there is a problem with alignment.

Sometimes, we also sense vibrating chassis while driving. These vibrations are the result of imbalance created in the tires. When your vehicle gets imbalanced, it gets lighter in one area than another which may result in vibrations.

Apart from creating vibrations, tire unbalancing can cause severe damages. Tire unbalancing results in vibrations and inappropriate driving conditions that lead to premature wearing of the front-end part. Apart from that, it also creates stress on lower ball joints, axles and other essential parts.

Unbalanced tires also lead to undue accelerated wearing. To compensate for the imbalance created, the tires start wearing from the edges. Keep in mind, tires should wear from the middle. If the tires are unbalanced then they will tear along the edges and sides.

If you are experiencing any such issue, I recommend you to contact a skilled mechanic. The alignment problem should be taken seriously otherwise it could lead to some severe issues. Moreover, it is not a problem can be resolved itself.

@sleepwalker29 Because the wheel/tire can be out of balace statically and/or dynamically. In other words up and down (static) or side to side (dynamic) imbalances. Weights are need on BOTH the inside and outside of the rim to correct both of these potential imbalances.

I drive jeep and have Mickey Thompson 33″ ATZ tires and 35″ MTZ tires I’ve been told to use sand instead of weights to balance. Is sand a good idea for bigger tires???

I just got new tires, and it wobbles, after Discount Tire installed the new tires. The wheel I think is out of balance has weights on the inside and outside of the wheel in the same spot. So why would anyone need to add the same amount of weight on the inside and outside? Dosen’t that make the wheel off balance?

  18. wowshiv says:

then your tire might not move right, it might be unbalanced. Also the wheel will be vibrating probably since one will be slightly heavier

  19. GreyFox2000 says:

you can destroy a set of tires and screw up your alignment.

  20. mrjost55 says:

you’ll feel a vibration because the wheel will be heavier on one side and lighter on the other
