Replacement brake pads – be nice to your car

The modern car performs its function through a complex set of components in a reliable manner day in and day out. It is the result of pain staking research and diligent manufacturing. But a car has a lot of moving components that suffer wear and tear and it is up to you to be nice to your car and help it perform its function optimally by replacing components that have completed their life with quality replacement options. And when you are nice to your car it will immediately reciprocate and you will enjoy a better and safer drive.

You will probably be accustomed to the tires of your car wearing out and you make sure that you opt for quality new tires to replace the old tires with. And you either are sure about which tires are the best for your car and your style of driving or you do a careful study of the options available to you before deciding about the new tires. There is another component in your car that requires such attention but often gets ignored. And those are the brake pads.

Brake pads are another car component that gets rubbed against routinely as is the case with car tires. And brake pads have to generate a lot of friction as they bring to a halt a large object such as your car. And brake pads by themselves are not very large nor do they have a lot of surface area. Therefore it is the same small area that is getting rubbed again and again. It should therefore be able to withstand the heat and the wear and tear even better than the tires. This requires some special materials and the quality brake pads are made of quality materials.

Each time they are pressed against the brake rotors they produce friction and do not go soft so that you do not experience brake fade. They will improve your braking performance which will make your drive less stressful. Quality brake pads are not very expensive and give you great value for your money. Getting your car into the garage to get tuned up may seem like a nuisance, but it’s actually very important.  Just like visiting a doctor, taking your car in regularly can stave off problems before they become expensive repairs.

Just like visiting the doctor’s office to get regular check ups, so to does your car require regular ‘check ups’ at your garage.  It’s very important to get your car in at least once a year (and really at the very least right before winter and summer) in order to get minor things looked at, replaced and topped up.  Some basic maintenance to stay on top of include: fluid top ups (such as oil and transmission fluids), air pressure in your tires, tuning up and checking out your engine, and other general repairs.

Fluid Top-Ups

Fluid top ups should be done seasonally and you can often do it yourself (though if you can’t, it’s very cheap to do at a garage).  Fluids to change and top up include oil and transmission fluid, as well as water in your radiator.  These things are very important to the running of your car; transmission fluid helps your transmission to stay cooler and run more smoothly, oil is used in the general running of your vehicle and water in the radiator keeps everything running cooler, especially in hot summers.  You can often do the fluid changes and top ups yourself, as long as you have the right equipment.  But make sure to do it regularly because if you leave it off, your vehicle will eventually lock up.

Air Pressure Checks

Although car tires are sturdy, they still have to get their air pressure checked and dealt with.  Too little air in the tires will damage the rims and make you burn more gas while too much air will cause the tires to eventually burst, causing accidents, skidding, and of course paying for a lot of damage to your wheels (not to mention replacement tires).  It’s easy enough to check; many places of have air hoses and you don’t even have to go to a garage; a gas station often has what you need.  You should definitely check the air pressure when you change your tires seasonally and before you go on any long trips.

Motor Tune Up

This has to be done in a garage.  Motor tune ups are checks on all of the moving bits and pieces in the motor and engine of your car; small pieces may be replaced and you may have to do additional work if something is damaged.  Motor tune ups can be done annually like a doctor check up, and are very important because when something goes wrong with your engine or motor, you will have to shell out thousands to get it fixed or even have to buy a whole new car.  Instead of putting it off, resign yourself to spending some money on fixing the small problems before they get worse.  Other checks include brake check, transmission checks, and checks on your computer system in your car; all of which are very important to your vehicle, your safety, and your bank book.

Taking your car in at least once a year may seem like an expensive nuisance, but think of it as an investment into the longevity of your car, not to mention dealing with small problems before they become huge expensive ones.  Just like going in to your doctor every year for a check up, your car needs to be checked out too so that it stays running and will always work for you.
