Question by : Should I buy this bicycle-GT Aggressor?
Hello, thank you for taking the time to view my question
I was told here not to buy a bike from Walmart as there might be a lot of problems with them. However, I used to ride “freestyle” or “bmx” on Toys R Us/K-Mart bikes my whole life and I never had a major problem with them that I wasn’t able to fix easily. I think Mountain bikes are harder to perform maintenance on though, since I’ve never done.
I’m not exactly sure how much I will be using the bike and I just really plan to ride the bike around my town in NJ. Pretty low traffic and good roads to ride on. I don’t think I want a bike with real skinny tires.
So, should I not buy a bike from Walmart regardless of all this?
Should I get a bike with skinny tires? Why or why not?
I went to the local bike-shop where people had recommended me to go instead of Walmart. The price on the GT Aggressor was $ 350, but I spoke with the person working and they told me they’d sell me the bike for $ 300 which was a “great price” I agreed with him that it was a generous price and I told him if I had the money on me I probably wouldn’t even think about it. But I told him I didn’t have the money and need to think about it a little more.
What do you all think?

There was some other bikes like Schwinn but I think he wanted more for them. I would like the best bang for my buck. What do you all think of that bike and what I should do?
Thank you very much for taking the time to read and answer

Mountain bikes are not the best thing to ride on streets with. You don’t need shocks or knobby tires that eat up energy. A hybrid will would be faster and more efficient. The GT Passage would be a better choice for what you want to do.

You stated, “I’m not exactly sure how much I will be using the bike and I just really plan to ride the bike around my town in NJ. Pretty low traffic and good roads to ride on.”
If you are only riding around town on paved roads – why get a mountain bike? Wider knobby tires will only make it more difficult to pedal. For the same $ $ $ you can get a 2010 Schwinn Voyageur GS with 700x40C tires that will roll MUCH easier & faster than a mountain bike in the city.
