Question by Murphy L: What Vehicles Use 205/75-15 Tires?
Many Junkyard have good deals on “Used Tire” Today I came by a wreck front-end 1997 Dodge Caravan but it have perfectly new tires on all four, full deep tread and manufacturer in 2008. The guy would sell them to me for $ 25 each. One problem, it was a 205/75…..14. So close. I want to know what other vehicles use this size so I can look for some good tire at the salvage yard. I don’t want to read tire by tire.
Few vehicles I know:
Earlier Nissan Quest/ Mercury Villager
Some GM S-10, Blazer, Sonoma…
Older Kia Sportage
Also, do you know or think there’s any weird myth or curse with buying tires from wreck cars?

Really old RWD Chrysler 5th Avenues and Dodge Diplomats used them too, but you won’t find them around much. In buying any used tire, look for a section of the tread that’s been on the ground, IE on a ‘yard car’ too long. Pass on it if it shows cracks in the tread or shoulders. Check the bead areas (where tire meets rim) for tears or kinks; If the bead is compromised, it will leak. If the tire dismount tool really snags the bead, it can also tear the sidewall cord as it wraps around the bead. Roll the tire on a paved surface looking for any bulged tread areas that indicate broken belts. Look inside for any plugs: these should be left in place, but trimmed flush and patched over on the inside. Cuts in the sidewalls are OK if the cord is not visible in the cut. Once the tires are inflated on your wheels, they should be inspected again for obvious bulges in the tread and sidewalls. If they were just removed from a sitting vehicle, they will be flat-spotted. Let them rest without the vehicle weight on them for two hours or drive on them at low to moderate speed for at least two miles before balancing them or the balance may be incorrect. Finally, consider a P215/70R15 tire instead; It’s only .37″ smaller in diameter and it’s more available than the P205/75R15.

Even worse, a third of all vehicles need critical servicing such as new tires, lights, brakes, or shocks. Sadly, auto mechanics in Austin report that the majority of these services could easily be maintained with less than 0 per year.
The importance of proper vehicle maintenance could not be any more apparent than now. With gas prices at an all-time record high, consumers are seeking ways in which to save money. A properly maintained vehicle will not only save gasoline, but it will also save money in the long term by avoiding costly repairs. Good tires, fresh oil and air filters, a filled radiator and transmission, and an adequate battery can increase gas mileage by as much as 35-50% in an average car. The savings can be greater depending upon the make, model, and year of your vehicle.
Vehicle maintenance includes regular oil and oil filter changes, transmission and radiator flushes, new air filters, checking the tires and purchasing new ones if necessary, and inspecting the brakes, windshield wipers, belts, cooling system, and ignition. Finally, regular inspection of the engine and transmission are of vital importance.
Most maintenance issues are relatively inexpensive. For example, an average oil change at an Austin area general maintenance shop may cost around thirty dollars. If regular oil changes are not performed, however, hundreds of dollars worth of repairs may be required in the future. A good used tire may only cost , but the price of repairs after a blow-out on the highway could be more than you can afford.
Although there are numerous auto repair shops available, not every shop is a quality one. Some shops are good, trustworthy establishments, charging reasonable prices and providing professional services. Others, unfortunately, choose to do business in ways which take advantage of certain customers, especially women or those who lack automotive knowledge. That is why it is important to check the reputation of any repair shop before choosing to do business there. One of the best way to get honest feedback about an automotive shop is to ask your friends and family for advice. Rest assured, if they have experienced bad service, they will immediately tell you. Likewise, if they were well pleased, they will highly recommend that you do business at the same place as they do. You can also check the local Better Business Bureau and the area Chamber of Commerce for any consumer complaints.

Do Know..
Safety……….you will never know if the tire has structure and or internal damage just by looking at it but the sad thing is that you will know when you are driving down a hot road at 65 mph and the tires blows……….its just not a good idea to buy tires from a salvage yard.
