Question by AJ: What is the purpose of the annoying “proactive defense” of comodo firewall?
It blocks friendly and trusted files from operating and gives way too many alerts. Its so annoying. It puts trusted files, in “waiting for review”. I am tired of clearing those files from “waiting for review” and next time again it goes there. Is pro-active defense supposed to prevent malware? If so, I don’t need it because i trust my antivirus to block malware on its own. Its said comodo is toughest firewall. now I know why — because the proactive thing blocks everything from functioning — so there is no way anything can enter the computer.

I read many reviews and suggestions online and now this is how I have my protection set up… I run Comodo Firewall and DISABLE the proactive defense. Also, I run Avast! Anti-virus Pro (you can get pro online is you search for how to do it, just Youtube “how to get Avast Pro free”, take it from there) Avast! – even the free version – from what I have read and what it has done for me is a GREAT anti virus program. Comodo is a great Firewall, but I leave the proactive defense to Avast. I also, supplement these with an occasional scan with MalwareBytes’ (free online). There you go….
I know, that stuff is very annoying, I had to figure it out too!!
Well AJ you are %100 right. I no longer put Comodo on users computers. A regular user does not know how to answer the questions. Someone who does know how does not use Comodo. Most users that have it, turn off the proactive defense or keep the firewall on learning mode. I have yet to get on someones computer that was using Comodo and they had it set up right. If it set up wrong you no longer have the protection you think you do. The thing that happen to me was after using Comodo for over a year Microsoft media player update and Comodo Popped up with the red warning, I thought you have got to be kidding me. How can it not know that windows media play is good. Not to mention I had to take a 45 min drive because a users clicked deny on a pop up and lost his internet. It’s not like Comodo was new on the computer it had been on there for months.Users like to say they have the strongest firewall out there, they are using Comodo. LOL Get a internet security suite with a built in firewall. Much easier and great protection. Many users will point to matousec tests to prove that one Comodo is great and two whatever some one else is using is junk. Again matousec tests are not considered very good test in many sections of the security community. Mostly users who don’t know better go there. This was not always the case, but because of the way he tests security software it is now. His tests of the firewall on security suites is often wrong because he turns of the anti-virus part of the software and in many firewall in suites, they won’t block a leak that the anti-virus software would stop. Matousec thinks they should change the security suites for his tests. The security suites, think as long as their software will stop what causes the leak that’s good enough. Frankly since I stopped using Comodo, my using the computer isn’t the pain it was when ever I added a new program or something updated. Plus I don’t get infected but have fixed many computers that did get infected with Comodo.
